Objectives

At the end of the course, trainees will be able to:

  • Handling pruning equipment and/or secateurs.
  • Performing 1st level servicing and maintenance.

Program

1. PRUNING AND SHREDDING TOOLS
  • Pruning.
  • Site surveys.
  • Types of vegetation.
  • Choice of cutting systems.
2. OVERVIEW OF DIFFERENT CUTTING EQUIPMENT
  • Secateurs.
  • Disc hedge trimmer fitted with saws or plates.
3. CUTTING SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY
  • Kinematics: Telescopic arm – Hanging system – Hydraulic connections – Cutting angle adjustment.
  • Tools: Secateurs – Disc hedge trimmer (adjust belt tension, sharpening, tightening saw blades, etc.)
  • Plates: Changing flails.
  • Lubrication.
4. STAFF AND USER SAFETY
  • Responsibilities.
  • Gestures and postures.
  • Signage.
  • Rules for safe driving.
5. ENVIRONMENT
  • Site survey.
  • Site organisation.
  • Beaconing.
  • Safety distances.
  • Cleanliness.
  • Economic and ecological factors.
6. 1ST LEVEL CHECKS AND MAINTENANCE
  • Analysis of manufacturers’ documents: User manual – Maintenance booklet – Follow-up sheets.
  • Checking and displaying equipment in the workshop: Inflating / Balancing – Slides – Telescope – Checking cutting systems – Connections – Safety devices (cab protection) – Wear parts – Spray-suppression.
  • Maintenance: Awareness of the cost of investment and maintenance – Preventive maintenance – Lubrication – Cleaning – Replacement of wearing parts (saws, knives, discs, etc.).
7. APPLICATION ON A SECURE SITE
  • Rigorous checks and controls.
  • Cutting height adjustment.
  • Getting to know the site and the organisation.
  • Signage.
  • Rules for safe driving.
  • Transport and movement positioning.
  • Cutting and pruning tests.
8. OPERATING DEMONSTRATION BY THE TRAINER
