1. REFRESHER ON THE INFORMATION IN THE SPECIFICATIONS
  • Masses – Forces – Laws of motion.
  • Standards and regulations to be complied with.
  • Specific customer requirements.
  • Determination of maximum and average pressures and flow rates.
  • Choice of hydraulic fluid.
2. SIZING APPROACH
  • Determination of maximum overall effort.
  • Tractive effort of the drive wheels.
  • Determination of the number of drive wheels.
  • Determination of the hydraulic motor(s)/pump(s).
  • Efficiency.
  • Exchange and cooling.
  • Transmission operating curve.
3. SELECTING THE CIRCUIT’S HYDRAULIC COMPONENTS
  • Fast motors – Slow motors and hydraulic wheels.
  • Geared motors.
  • Motor control devices.
  • Hydraulic pumps for closed circuits: Direction of travel and displacement control devices – Control devices for pumps and motors (automotive, traction control).
  • Air-cooled heat exchangers.
  • Calculating the traction force of rolling stock.
  • Sum of efforts to be taken into account.
  • Sizing transmissions on different machines and installations.
  • Average efficiency.
  • Lifespan.
