1. PREREQUISITES FOR HYDRAULIC DESIGN
  • General information on hydraulic systems: Differences between mobile and stationary – Fundamental theoretical concepts – Pressure levels according to use.
  • Quantities – Symbols – Units.
  • Flow regimes: Reynolds number – Bernoulli’s equation – Poiseuille’s law – Transient regime – Law of knots and law of meshes.
  • Fundamental theorem of dynamical systems: Translational movement – Rotational movement.
  • Efficiency: Overall efficiency and average efficiency – Pump efficiency – Motor efficiency – Efficiencies order of magnitude.
  • Pressure drop: Linear pressure losses – Singular pressure losses.
  • Hydraulic fluids: Viscosity index – ISO viscosity
  • Mineral oil – Non-flammable and low-flammability fluids – Compressibility – Thermal expansion – Viscosity variation with pressure / Pressure variation on start-up – Pressure variation on sudden stop.
  • Determining pressures and flows: Law of motion
  • Masses and forces involved – Natural frequency – Limits to the use of open-loop hydraulic systems.
  • Temperature control: Heating capacity – Cooling capacity.
